About State License Cost

Radif Partners reads the fee schedules, rules and candidate handbooks that state licensing boards publish for real estate agents, cosmetologists, estheticians, insurance producers, pharmacy technicians, notaries, commercial drivers and other licensed trades, and adds up what a first license really costs in each state: required training hours, exam, application, fingerprints and renewal. Every amount links to the board page or handbook where it was read, with the date. The site sells no course, refers no school and asks for no contact details.

The gap this site fills

Search for what a real estate, cosmetology or nurse aide license costs and the first pages belong to schools and course sellers. They give a national range, hide their own price behind a cart or an information request, and leave the state fees to the reader. The boards publish the fees, but spread over an application page, a rule and a vendor handbook, and none of them adds the lines up. An applicant ends up with three tabs open and a total that is still a guess.

The pages that rank for these searches are written by schools and course sellers: they quote a national range, keep their own price behind a cart or an information form, and leave the state fees to you, while the boards spread those fees over several pages without a total. This site reads every fee a state board, its exam vendor and its fingerprint vendor charge, links each line to the page it came from, and adds them into one total for your state, with your tuition, exam retakes, training time and renewals.

Who publishes it

The site is published by Radif Partners, a company that builds calculators on public rules and public data. It is not a school, a licensing board, an exam vendor, an employer or a referral service. It has no partner to send you to, receives no commission and carries no affiliate link.

What we rely on

173 state fee tables, each read on the board's own page, its rule in the state code or the handbook of its exam vendor, and linked line by line on the state pages; the federal rules on nurse aide training (42 CFR 483.152) and on entry-level training for commercial drivers (49 CFR 380.609); the resident licensing pages of the National Insurance Producer Registry; the certification fee published by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

What the site leaves out

Tuition, which schools set themselves; the premium of a surety bond; the DOT medical exam; and any judgment on a school, an employer or your eligibility. The method page lists every reading rule and every state left unpriced; the editorial policy explains corrections.

Totals add the fees that each state board and its official exam and fingerprint vendors publish. School tuition is yours to enter, since no board sets it. A board can change a fee at any time; the amount on its own page wins over ours.
