A Florida real estate sales associate license costs $94.50 in the fees counted here: an $11 application fee and a $46.75 initial licensure fee, both set by Florida Real Estate Commission rule 61J2-1.011 as amended on November 22, 2022, and $36.75 for the Pearson VUE salesperson exam. Only New York costs less among the 20 states priced here, where the median is $203. Before the exam you need 63 classroom hours of pre-licensing education, counted in fifty-minute hours, and before the first renewal a forty-five-hour post-licensing course. Applicants must be at least 18. Fingerprints are required too, but the fee could not be read on an official page, so it is left out of the total. The license renews every 2 years for $64, with 14 hours of continuing education per cycle after the first.
Three small fees
The license is issued by the Florida Real Estate Commission, which sits within the Division of Real Estate of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The entry credential is called sales associate, not salesperson, and an applicant must be at least 18 years old.
Florida splits its charges into amounts that look almost symbolic next to the Connecticut bill. Commission rule 61J2-1.011 sets the sales associate application fee at $11 and the initial licensure fee at $46.75. The exam is booked with Pearson VUE, whose Florida fact sheet lists $36.75 for the real estate salesperson test, a sitting of three and a half hours. Each new attempt is charged again.

What the total leaves out
Two caveats apply to the figure above. First, applicants are fingerprinted electronically, and that fee is real, but the Department of Business and Professional Regulation pages that state it could not be read, so no amount is counted rather than a guessed one. Second, the department's online checkout may show a total higher than the rule amounts, which can include surcharges not listed in rule 61J2-1.011; the rule is what is shown here. Expect to pay somewhat more than $94.50 in practice.
Fifty-minute hours, then more classes
The pre-licensing course is 63 hours, but Florida counts classroom hours of fifty minutes, so the seat time is shorter than the number suggests. At 15 hours a week the course takes about 5 weeks. The second stage is easy to overlook: a new sales associate must finish a forty-five-hour post-licensing course before the first renewal date. Budget for that course as part of the cost of getting started, not as continuing education.
Renewing
The biennial renewal fee is $64. After the first renewal, which the post-licensing course covers, a sales associate takes 14 classroom hours of continuing education each two-year period. Four years after licensure the fees paid to the state total $223. The exam guide compares Florida's test with those of other states.
